It used to be one of the busiest and remote small towns in NZ. Now, we don't get any international guests due to the pandemic.

Legend has it that Waiau river holds the most fresh water trouts in contrast to the other fresh bodies of water around. This could possibly be true but who knows.

One way to find out is to cast my line into the water to find out.
But man! this creatures are very tricky to catch...Should I say "very picky" instead?

You might exhaust all types of lures, soft baits, spinners, flies, and various fishing style to even land one of these bad boys.

I'm glad that after a few days of staying in the area, I was able to land a couple of them on my last day...Always the last day ;-)
Some of the trouts are undersized so I need to return them back quickly.
A few trouts caught were either Rainbow Trout or Brown Trout.
I caught both of the Trout species however only took two good size "Brownies" home for my meal.

I absolutely recommend adventurers and anglers alike to explore this part of NZ and to experience what Nature has to offer.
